Missing inspection plate

Working out the bugs in my 84 k10 plow truck for the season. I am missing the inspection plate for the bell housing on my sm465. How vital is this? I ordered one from gmpartsdirect.com but in no way is it right and they won't take it back. Does anyone have one they want to sell?

My inspection plate got bent and was rubbing the flywheel. I took it off and its been off for over a year. Its mainly to keep debris out, but ive taken it offroading and mudding and never haf any problems with my clutch or starter or anything.

I am just worried about stuff getting in there and making the clutch slip

     Do you have any Pick - n - pull type yards around you, they should be really cheap.

Not many. Everyone I called doesn't have anything older than early 1990s.

Check around on craigslist in your area for someone selling an sm465 and sre if you can buy thr plate for like 20 bucks

Yea looked everyone is asking a pretty penny for these trannys or they don't have the plate

I can see if i can find mine. The upper inside corner on one side got bent in and rubbed on the flywheel. I found it was bent and didnt want to climb back under my truck to put it back on. If I can find it, you can have it if you pay for shipping. It could easily be straightened.
