« on: November 01, 2011, 07:49:29 pm »
1st so I have a 85 k10 4wd. It had a leak in radiator so I got a new one to put in figured might as well do water pump while I was at it question is can I buy the high temp paint and spray it to keep from rusting so fast?  2nd It also has a manifold oil leak I'm gonna paint them as well I have a blue gasket sealer says it good for manifolds to but should I get the black stuff I only want to do this once. For now. I also removed smog pump " was running any way no belt"  gonna remove all the other stuff that went with it tomorrow anything I need to know.  Sorry to put all this here I. One spot

High temp paint I guess would work on the radiator if you prep it correctly.  Though there are better products for the radiator to coat it permanently.
Second, you said manifold leak.  I assume you meant intake manifold ?  I personally do not know what "blue gasket sealer" or "the black stuff" is,  you need to be more specific so that we can help you.

I used the black RTV around the water ports on the intake manifold and so far I don't see any leaks. The hardest part of putting a new gasket on the intake manifold that I found is trying to get it back in place without disturbing the gasket. Also make sure you mark the distributor so it goes back in the right position. Mine didn't and I had to adjust it. Someone told me that there is a rig that you can attach to the manifold to help lift it off but i've never seen it. If you have questions just ask. I'm no expert but I'll give you any advice I can.

To get the intake out, I put a step ladder against the bumper, put one foot on the frame bext to tge steering box and the other on the bumper. I put 2 fingers from my right hand in the distributor hole and 2 fingers fingers in the water neck. Lift it straight up, then over and set it on the rad core. To avoid coolant in your oil, crack the pitcock on the rafiator and let it drain ubtill tge radiator lecel is below the height of the intake. Putting it back on is the same.
