5 counties Indiana has emission testing for 1975 and newer cars, what a joke. Anyway when I originally bought my 1985 C30 and transferred it to my name I was talking with the BMV and found out that they had YOM laws that would allow you to display a year of manufacture (1985 Indiana) and legally have it on there. You would carry a historical plate that would be renewed and carried in the vehicle each year and an affidavit stating that. This would eliminate the need for emission testing... You just had to get an inspection from an Indiana State Police officer. No problem I thought as I have a post about 11 miles from me. I stopped in and the desk officer said to come in any time. The next day I had time that was nice enough out I unloaded the bed and got it out of the garage to head over there. I get there I find out that you have to now make an appointment... So I did. Go back home and put the truck away, no easy task cause it goes in real close, then load the stuff back in. The day arrives two weeks later and I go. No problems found an I was on my way with what the BMV told me I needed to have. I go home, put the truck back in the garage and head for the BMV to get the registration changed.... Good ole Indiana decided to change the laws and now an emission test is required or a show car policy or exemption is made which special insurance with restrictions blah blah blah.... Totally ticked me off to the point of just selling it cause I didn't think it would pass with no AIR pump on it which is the only emission device besides the PCV. I took it to have it tested yesterday. They had 3 people looking through books cause they couldn't believe a 1985 didn't have catalytic convertors on it. I told them to run the vin, it will say the rating it is. No they said the books don't show it that way and of course the stickers are not on the replacement drivers door. They finally took my word for it that it was a C30 and put the GVW at 9001 lbs. Much to my surprise it passed and I got a free gas cap out of the deal... It only cost me $40 in gas all the running around and I have decided to just renew the plates as Indiana is not getting the extra $48 just to put a 1985 plate on it. I will just do that for shows.
That is my story and I am sticking to it... I feel better that I got that off my chest.
