fan question?
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:22:58 am »
I have an 81 Chevy with 305. when the truck is running, should the fan be blowing pulling air through radiator not pushing? when I am standing outside the truck it is pushing air through, found this kind of strange ? Any help would be great!!

what kind of fan?  Thermo, fixed, electric...  (you need to include more info in your posts...)
If the fan is thermo switched, it won't be running unless the engine reaches a certain temp.

Regardless of type, the fan should be pulling outside out into the engine compartment.  Do you have a shroud on it?

x2:  more info.  Side note, if you did have the mech. fan on and it was blowing from engine compartment to front of truck, that would be something to see.

sorry gang for not having enough info. It has a clutch fan with a shroud. even my neighbor said that was weird. shocked the heck out of me to. I have always know the fan to be sucking in and you get a lot of air around your motor if you put your hand in there, its crazy how much air comes out the front lol

When my truck is sitting I can feel air coming out the front. Snap a picture of your fan with the engine off and post it on here. Maybe someone installed the fan with the blades backwards, or maybe the fan is for a reverse direction waterpump.

Not the right one how.  Flex fans are not worth it, replace it with a proper clutch fan.
