will a ford sending unit work with a chevy gauge?

Thanks to those of you who gave suggestions about my gas tank relocation problem. I believe an 81 ford shortbed tank will fit inside the frame rails. The question is will the ford sending unit work with my 81 chevy gauge?

This is just a guess but I would say yes. Why not just replace the factory tank with a aftermarket replacement?

The factory tank will not fit between the frame rails.

You missed my point. Why don't you replace the original tank with a aftermarket tank? Why is it so important to have it insisde the frame rails, right in the way of the exhaust etc.? Did the media hype scare you into believing that you are going to die because GM was irresponsible and put the tank were it is going to blow up if you get hit in the side? I have been T- boned twice in a Chevy truck, one time the full tank was crunched pretty good, threw another bed on and kept running the tank, the gauge was off a little after that. The other time the tank was smashed almost flat along with the rear bracket. No fire! I have dragged a few tanks around and over rocks and stumps in the woods and only once have I had one leak and that was because it was rusty under the brackets. Not sure if this is why you want the tank inside the frame but if it is it sounds like allot of work for next to nothing for a gain.

He said the tank will fit inside the rails, he just needs to know if the ford sending unit will work with the chevy guage. Plus the tank inside the frame will be back farther, distributing more weight to the rear wheels for more traction. :D

F*@d & Chevy use two different non-compatible sending units and gages. They won't work together.

Like 77bowtie said, Ford and GM use different type sending units.  They won't work.
