Holley 4160 secondaries leaking
« on: December 26, 2011, 10:45:28 pm »
I decided to clean the neede and seat.. gas was dripping from time to time from one secondary booster. The needle had a bunsh of whitish looking sludge stuff on it.. which i washed off with carb cleaner.. i blew it off and put it back. Im new to this so I reset the float soe fuel would just come out. It idled fine and ran good for a few minutes.. im assuming there is more in the fuel bowl. The primary needle was clean as anything. Im confused as to how something could just contaminate the secondary float bowl.. Should I pull the bowl off and flush it out?

If you found sludge build-up of any kind in a carb it should be rebuilt.  Otherwise you are gambling on wether it will continue to run after you put it back to service.  If you found sludge in one place, you can bet there is more.  It does not take much at all in a needle valve and seat to make a carb mess up and run erratic.
