Overflow tank, hose length

This may be a simple question but I just want to make sure I do it right the first time. I have a 74 2wd, 350. My cooling system overflow tank is mounted between the rad and battery box. The hose that runs from the rad to the overflow tank is clearly to short, doesn't even reach the max cold mark. Seems to have been cut short somewhere along the way. I just wanted to know the length it is supposed to be. I thought it was most likely about 1/4" from the bottom of the tank, but just wanted to be sure.

Does this sound good or should it be closer to the fill line on the tank?

     It should almost touch the bottom, of course you don't want it to be able to touch, but 1/4" should be fine.  The cap usually holds it solid so it can not slid in or out also.

thanks, my tank is the old style. The hose goes in the top beside the cap. I used a hose clamp to tighten it in place.

Ditto what Bake said about sitting 1/4" from the bottom.

I used spring type hose clamps at the tanks on my two trucks. If I recall correctly, it should be 3/8" tubing. As far as total length, I don't recall.  However, if you get about 2 feet you should have more than enough to complete the job.
