windshield wiper noise

its killing me that i cant figure this out, but…

theres a noise coming from my wipers. kind of a high pitched squeak that only happens when the blades go UP. i thought it was the rubber blades until i replaced them.

the motor still seems to work (though only one speed works, but i think its the switch). is a high pitched noise common? how do i make the dang thing shut up?!

     Is the noise coming from the wiper blades or the motor ?  Or can you tell.  I know in the past I have changed the type of arms I have on some of my vehicles and they have been too stiff and forced the blade against the windshield, so the upstroke smeared and the down stroke worked great.  But that does not sound like your problem.
     I would suspect the arm mount (the actual stem the wiper arm mounts to), somehow it is squealing or binding on the upstroke causing the high pitched squeal.  Maybe it is warped and hitting the cowl area only on the upstroke.

I had the same thing happening with mine the last couple years before I went into this rebuild.
I had changed the wiper blades too, and still had the noise.
If you don't think it's the motor, it's most likely one of the pivot points in the wiper linkage under the plastic screen above the firewall.
There is about 4 pivot joints where the linkage is rotating or pivoting as the motor turns and the blades go up and down. Don't forget about the actual splined stem that the wiper arms mount on to as well.
