New Job
« on: March 21, 2012, 08:19:56 pm »
I got a new(real) job. I'm working at Oreilly Auto as a Merchandiser/Stocker. Since the store I'm working at is the "Hub" store, We get so many parts in that there are 4 guys who work this department. When the delivery truck come in from the distribution center, it drops off like 5 pallets full of plastic totes, and each tote is packed with parts. I have to scan every single part in every tote and sort them all in to separate totes and carts to go to different areas of the store. It take about 3-5 hours to scan everything, depending on how much get sent to us, and then the rest of the time putting it away. Its not too bad of a job, I'm on my feet literally all day. The store manager started my pay at 9.00/hr, and everyone in the store gets an "incentive" which is commission based on store average of sales. So Right now I'm actually making 9.52/hr, and in the summer it has jumped up to 9.84/hr. the employee discount is pretty dang good. AC refrigerant is half price, and my brother needed a steering box, pitman arm, idler arm, and rag joint which equalled out to $250 without my discount and $140 with my discount. Thats a pretty good deal! This is my 3rd week there and its working out pretty well so far. And I still have my normal job too, which is entering billing information at a family doctors office, cash pay and I can work whenever I have time.

Good deal. When I worked at oriellys ther was no employee incentive and starting pay was 8 bucks. Only the store manager made a profit from the store. It was a good job. I liked bringing in autozones customers. The plus was the pretty ladies that needed a battery, lights, air filter, or wipers installed:) they always seemed to tip something or just a #

You should be able to become familiar with a lot of parts doing that job.  I have always been impressed with people who are not afraid of work, hopefully this new job will be a stepping stone for you for something better.
