vss and speedo
« on: June 23, 2012, 06:24:40 pm »
I have an '88 R20 suburban with a 454/400 trans. I am pulling a code 24, which says vehicle speed sensor. I did some research here and I think I found out why my speedo doesn't work either. Are the vss and speedo connected in some way? My speedo cables are connected at gauge and trans but there is an orange wire that doesn't want to connect at the back of trans. What would that wire be? Thanks for any info!

The suburban has cruise control, would that put the vss behind the cluster, if not where is it on the trans.? Any info would be appreciated

Since you have a cable driven mechanical speedo, you may have a ~1x2x3" plastic buffer ribbon-cabled into the back of the cluster housing, near the back of the speedo head.  The buffer provides vehicle speed data to the ECM.  If the speedo isn't working either, check the cable, gears, adaptor, etc.
