Bolt on wider rear end for 84 C10
« on: July 31, 2012, 09:56:31 am »
Is there a rear end that will be wider than the original that came in an 84 C10?   Can I find one to bolt in and have the rear wheels the same width as the fronts, while still maintaing the 5 lug bolt pattern?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't seem to find the answer.

Probably not bolt in. I think Dodge had a wider track width, but you'd need to mod the spring perches. What are you trying to achieve?

Better gear ratio (I have a700R4), its either a 2.73 or 3.08 now.  Wider stance from behind.  It would be nice if it was a positraction also.

You could pull a differential out of a stick shift truck, prolly be a 3.73 or 4.11. As far as a wider stance, I like some Mickey Thompson sportsman radials, that'll give you a pretty wide footprint. Just my .02

Thanks for the information.  Right now I have the original 7 inch rally wheels with 255/60/15.  I guess an 8 inch would look a little better. I really like the look of the rally wheels.

I think the 88-98 Chevrolet pickups rear axle is slightly wider, although you'd  still have to move spring and shock mounts.

What about a 91 Suburban?

91 Suburban is the same width and will be a great replacement.  If the tracking width is a concern, get wheel spacers for the rear or run 15x7 up front and 15x8 in back with a little wider tire.  My $.02

The newer 88-98 C/K truck rearends are a little wider.  R/V rearends are identical.
