Dana 44 to Dana 60 drag link differences
« on: September 09, 2012, 10:50:16 am »
I'm doing a Dana 60 swap for a 44.  I've got 6" of lift and wanted to keep the front sway bar so I chose not to do the cross-over steering swap and stay with stock parts.  I got the skyjacker 2" drop Pitman arm and a dodge Dana 60 arm that I flipped the taper in.  After getting it all installed, I ended up about 1/2" off parallel which is pretty dang good.

Before the swap I eyeballed the drag link and in my mind, there was no difference (other than maybe a minor adjustment) between the Dana 44 and Dana 60 setup.

In execution, there does appear to be a difference.

I was hoping to use the Moog adjustment sleeve so it would look stock but it appears I'll have to machine one now.  Either there was a location difference between the dodge arm or the parts that were originally on there weren't in fact the ES2026&2027 like I thought they were.  It appears the setup is ~1.5-inches too long.  Anyone have experience with this swap and know where I went wrong?

gm steering arms dont bolt straight light dodge. they curve back a couple inches. and your kingpin bolts straight out. idk if there is a fix or how to do it but thats the problem your having now

And so it does.  I went and dug mine out and it has the same rear-set as the one in that pic.  Seems my drawing wasn't worth a crap.  The difference is almost exactly the overlap on the DL's.  Go figure.
