Truck just falls on it's face
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:09:54 am »
Riding into work today my '79 C10 w/350 started running really crappy, like stalled while driving crappy.  I'm pretty sure it's fuel, when I died I pulled the air cleaner cover and pumped the accelerator pump and didn't get anything.  After some cranking it would start and run but anything above and idle would kill it.

So, is the only filter the little one up by the carb?

Any other insight would welcome as well,

Thanks,

K

The factory filter is the one in the carb.  If there's another f/filter, it was added later.  Assuming the tank isn't empty, due of a faulty sender/gauge, check your fuel hoses and the fuel pump delivery.

In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Well it wasn't the filter.  Going up hills just killed me, I had to stop and have my wife get me.

I'm thinking pump now, when I gave up and parked it I took a look under the hood and the pump was leaking fuel.

It was also stinking quite a bit, which I usually think of as a rich condition but the carb was definitely running out of gas.  When it would stall it took quite a bit of cranking to get things going again.

Arg.

Fuel pump.

The spring on the old pump was in 3 pieces.
