It's been a while since my last post. Probably about a couple of years. A lot of struggling has been going on but I know it could always be worse and I still have my truck!! Divorce sucks!
Anyway, I had my cousin replace the heads for me since I wasn't motivated enough. The only thing wrong with my heads were that they smoked real bad when you'd first fire it up and then it'd go away. The truck ran great and just hit 35K miles. He replaced them with a set of rebuilt heads. He told me that when he took my heads off that my valves were smaller than 1.94's. For some reason I thought that 1.94's were the stock size. I got it back and the truck runs fine without smoke. It seemed peppier but it couldv'e been in my head. Shortly after, I noticed the master cylinder leaking so I put it on the list of things to do. While dragging my feet on that list, I noticed a slight tapping noise from inside the cab towards the passenger side. It was one of those "what now" moments. I was hoping for an exhaust leak but figured on pulling the valve cover just to take a look when I replace the master cylinder.
So today, I get out there about 8:00 and started bleeding the new mstr cyl. Everything went accordingly and was feeling pretty good. I wrapped it all up, bled the brakes, and pulled the valve cover off before the test drive since I don't like burning my fingers. As I'm watching the rocker arms dance, the #4cyl exh rocker didn't look as lively. There's my tap! It wasn't loose and didn't make a difference adjusting it a quarter turn so I put it back where it was and reinstalled the valve cover. I also looked for exhaust leaks and didn't find any. Is it safe to say there's a wiped lobe? If so, should I go with a stock cam or go with something like a high energy 260?
I went for a test run and the brakes felt good. When I was almost back from the test drive, I was sitting at a red light and noticed a hissing noise from under the dash. When the light turned green and I let off the brake it went away. It didn't feel different but would check it out when I got back. The hissing is coming from the hole in the firewall where the brake pedal linkage goes through and into the rear of the booster. So I went for another test drive and this time I got the pucker effect!! It took a lot of pressure to get it to stop this time. Needless to say it was a short drive. I crawled all over that engine compartment looking for an unplugged line or something. I unplugged the vacuum line for the booster and it had plenty vacuum. I had another "what now" moment. So is it common for a booster to go when a new mstr cyl is installed? Thanks in advance!
