Interior trim prep and paint

I was reading a post on 67-72 and it was about prepping and painting the interior trim pieces but I can't get my password to work. I have gathere up all the interior trim I need. Door panels are blue, the upper trim is all red and the lower kick panel stuff is spray painted black.
I have decided to wash with soap and water and use prep solvent to clean. I want to use SEM prep, paint, and maybe the adhesion promoter. Not in that order.
My questions:
1. The door panels are original and have a chalky build up. What is the propped way to prep and pint these?  I know I would lose some texture with sanding but I am not worried about that.
2. Is the adhesion promoter necessary or just good to use?
3. The previously spray painted stuff, how do I prep and paint it?  Do I need to remove the paint to dye it or just clean, scuff, and dye.
4. The metal upper trim pieces, should I use the vinyl dye on those?

On my door panels, 76 model without the lower sections, I took nylon 3m wheel brush and knocked off the "powder". This also took off the factory texture, but did leave the plastic in a clean condition.  I took somw dawn and a scrub brush and cleaned them real good nd let them dry.  The I sprayed them with duplacolor plastic primmer and couple of coats of duplacolor Lt. Blue plastic trim paint.  I removed the arm rest first as mine were in decent shape and the paint color matched reasonably well.  They turned out okay for my project.  Again, no texture left on the panels, they are smooth now.  But for the cost of a nylon brush wheel and a couple of cans of paint I feel good about them.  Good luck!

If you need to build structure/texture back, build it up with some resin and spray some Duplicolor Truck bed liner on it from about 16" away starting the spray before the area to be sprays with some light coats.  Once your done, color it with the above.
