huge mistake
« on: December 31, 2012, 10:34:48 pm »
got motor done and pistons hit heads  :-[.this was my fault however i dont see how the machine shop did not catch this error while balancing and clearancing .this build started as a 355 .i bought pistons ,cam, etc then stoped on the build for a yr or so then guy at shop told me 3.48 and 3.75 crank was same price so why not build 383 ,just pay for clearancing .i did not think about longer stroke ,shorter piston .so i went on with the build using 350(1.560) comp ht pistons instead of 383(1.425)comp ht pistons .luckly the builder turned it by hand first just before he was gonna crank it so i can hear it run.the builder said i could have the pistons fly cut(0.50-.100) but i choose to just buy the right ones

You are right he should have noticed that or known about it when he suggested different parts mid build. I hope he is going to treat you right on your new parts.

the builder didnot check anything because i told him its been togather before by the machine shop .the builder is only charging me $100 to take it apart and rebuild it again after i get new rods .i payed him $300 to build it the first time .the machine shop told  me they would press old pistons off rods and install new ones on rods for free if i bring them to him .he said he feels bad about the whole thing .

he said he feels bad about the whole thing .

It's nice to see that he still has conviction about his business and not only worries about money.
