carb flooding
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:32:15 pm »
Can anyone tell me why my carb is flooding with fuel and running out the hose to the charcoal canister.   I have a 1984 chevy with a 350 in it?   I replaced the fuel pump and didn't help so I then went ahead and put on a new carb and it still does it????   Thanks

Answer (do) the following and report back...
  • What carburetor do you have?

  • Is there any sediment, or debris, or other foreign material in the fuel?

  • Disconnect the charcoal canister hose from the carburetor.  With the engine running do you feel any vacuum through the charcoal canister hose?

  • Disconnect both ends of the charcoal canister hose from the carburetor and the charcoal canister.  Place one end of the hose over a clean rag and forcefully blow through the hose.  Did you dislodge any black carbon granules or debris from the hose?

  • Does flooding stop if you leave the charcoal canister hose disconnected from the carburetor?

In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!
