aftermarket rear slider window
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:11:11 pm »
Hey folks,
Quick question as i'm just looking at a window someones selling online called an Elixir "Passport ll" sliding truck window for a 73-87 chev. Wondered if anyone had heard of these, any kind of a review would be good. Reasoning for replacement is that the aluminum is in rough shape and the guides or gasket between slider and stationary glass is shot which makes opening and closing rough(the window binds) Thanks in advance!

I can't say that I've heard of that brand, but the one in your photo looks like a typical aluminum framed slider. I would imagine that any new aluminum sliding rear window would be a huge improvement over a worn out old slider.

I have an aluminum slider in my '73 (not sure of the brand) that has rattles and sometimes binds, but the window is over 30 years old...

That looks like new old stock, and about like one of the two that has been installed in my 82 (first one had a handle of a rotor tiller go through it that wasn't secured)  and those were put in 20+ years ago

I haven't priced sliding windows in a long, long time... But $70 for a new old stock slider doesn't sound like a bad deal.

That is the model i've had in the 82 for years, i think i have that box in a shed with the original solid back glass,  after 20 + years it still works great, the only complaint is you have to slide it from the center it can rock a bit and be a bit sticky but its never leaked and a plus no one can take a small screw driver and pop it open like other plastic latch models.

If you want a slider that is a good one to find.
