tailgate hinges
« on: April 25, 2013, 06:33:24 pm »
does anyone know if the previous generation used the same hinge assembly for the tailgate?  i cannot locate any for 73-87 pickups, but i did find one listing for 67-72s.  the picture looks absolutely identical.

As far as I know they are not the same. If I remember correctly there are two different versions for 73/87 trucks. The picture is probably the same as they are probably not going to take the time to photograph several different pivots. Just use the one pic to get the point across.

last I knew these were still available from GM. I have also bought them at several differnt parts stores over the years.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

that's the issue.  tried all of the parts stores in my area.  they dont have them at all. some still have the handle on their website and in their system, which i need as well, but are unable to order it.  i finally located a handle online, but am having a difficult time with the hinges.

i also tried searching through several online gm carriers and most only list a tailgate lock.  i found a couple that list what i need and have it as discontinued.

any ideas other than a yard?

I can tell you our trucks had different but can't remember the cut-off year but it was either after 74 or after 76.  Reason being as I tried to put a cherry pre-1981 (Chevrolet script in the center) complete tailgate on a 1982 bed.  The hinges weren't long enough and wouldn't fold into the pocket right.  I sold the tailgate before the tailgate ID thread in the Technical section that shown the differences.

Do you need the hinges or the links (see pics)?  All of those parts are available.  PM or email Captkaos...  he can supply all of the items you need for the left and right sides of your tailgate!
