The original stripes and lettering on an "81 Street Coupe. The stripes started off dark, then faded. The stripes were decals with STREET COUPE lettering on the actual stripe. When I got my "81 repainted in 2007 the stripes were painted on and were placed about inch and a half to two inches from original position :-\, done so it would follow the body line.

I never did understand why the Street Coupe stripes are 2 inches below the body line from the factory.

The Chevy Sport stripes follow the body line.

But it is a good way to pick out an original stripe truck....just about all the repaints move the stripes to the body line

That's exactly what happened to mine. After specifically telling the paint man where I wanted the stripe, he followed the body line....by that point I just wanted my truck back.....one day I'll get it done back to original....Did you know that the stripe started off a dark color and then lightened all the way to where they terminated?
