paint for frame and axles?
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:57:34 am »
restoring 1979 c20, got her all torn down and wondering what to paint the frame and axles with?  Special paint?  I was thinking POR 15 or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator.  Or just rattle can black rustoleum?

Many a frame has been rattle can painted, including mine at one point. Although it is probably the least durable.

If you are looking to keep rust away long term atleast use tractor paint. Or any other cheap enamel. Just stay away from lacquer.

I know its an old topic, but there is a product called "zero rust" - it works like por-15 but requires no prep other than cleaning, and is quite a bit cheaper.  I used it on my latest project and am quite happy with it, and buddies have used it with great success, even on leaf springs.

I got mine sandblasted and powdercoated. The frame, leafs, axle, cross members, drive shaft and other small stuff. $600 much more durable than any paint!
