transmission lines
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:16:26 pm »
I have 76 C-10 with a 700R4 transmission in it....i need to replace the transmission lines. I assume since they are fluid lines there is an "O" ring on each end if any of you can confirm this. Who ever had the truck some time ago ran a line through a hole in the frame then up to the radiator...well.....needless to say the line rubs "chaffing" as we call it and i am sure the rubbing will cause a hole in the line sooner or later, i mean they did a sorry ass job of bending it.... also it rubs on top of the shock...plus both lines have compression fittings. I would like to replace both lines and do a decent bend  route from the trans to the radiator. Local parts store did not have any line.

I believe each end of the line is flared. Not a big deal to make new ones. At least you will do a better job then the other guy.

Your trans lines would have been double flared from the factory.

If you bend your own (i did)...dont buy a cheap plier type bender..I warranty replaced it twice..in 30 minutes..first time it failed, the whole anvil popped off, rolled down my arm and thwapped me square in the forehead. Ow. Second time, I saw it getting ready to happen, and moved my head just before it popped off and did the SAME thing, minus the impact with my forehead. Third one made it through all the bends, but I don't give it long for this world either.
