lowering with stock A arms
« on: May 24, 2004, 07:41:00 am »
What is the lowest you can drop the front of a chevy pickup with stock A arms?I was going to go 2 inches ,but 5 would probably look better. However I don`t want to go so low that the inside of A arms will give road clearance problems.

Lower control arms don't really have any relavence to how low you can drop the truck.  With 3" spindles and 2" dropped springs you will have 5" of drop.

i agree with above.....stock bottom a arms have nothing to do with drop. You need spindles and springs or custom lower dropped A arms.

If your running 15 in.wheels don't do it. I just took off my 3in. dropped spindles combined with 2in. lowered coils.Your lower control arms will be too low.Unless you are OK with creeping over every little bump or dip in the road,RR tracks etc.

This is how you should be driving a lowered vehicle.  You can't expect it to be driving wide open across RR tracks and such and think you will be ok.  I slow down for RR tracks in my completely stock Corvette, that is what the caution lights are for and rules stating you should slow for all RR tracks.

I don,t buy that you should have to slow down to 5mph to cross a set of tracks.I bent my passenger control arm after hitting a manhole cover.Ihad 2 inches of clearence. This is a safety hazard.I now have everthing stock with 2 coils cut.By far much better. Now if you like 20 in wheels spindles may be better.I have 15in. ralleys on mine.I'm not an expert. This is my first fullsize chevy truck, but I have built many muscle cars(camaro's, chevell's).My personal opinion is that I know you will give up something when you lower a vehicle.I think just cutting 2 coils works best.I am always looking for something better but hav'nt found it.Not into air bags either.
