« on: November 13, 2013, 04:21:20 pm »
I have an 1985 K10 with a Mr goodwrench 350. When I bought the truck the dashlights worked now they don't, it keeps popping the fuse. I have tried changing the dimmer switch and fuse and nothing. Still keeps blowing the fuse anything will help. Thanks y'all

Welcome to the site from Central California!

Which fuse blows - "INST LPS" or "T/L CTSY" or _____?  If it's the 'INST LPS' fuse, look for any metal rubbing up against the back of the instrument cluster circuit board or for pinched wires running to the instrument cluster harness plug or the panel lamp in the back of the AC/heater control.

Do you see any non-factory wiring plugged into the connector cavities on the front of the fuse box?

Do you have a volt/ohmmeter?

The factory wires protected by the 'INST LPS' fuse are generally gray in color and run to very few locations in the dash, including the instrument cluster, the A/C control panel, and the four wheel drive selector illumination.  The 'INST LPS' fuse also protects the three vertically grouped fuse box cavities labeled 'LPS.'  Are there any wires plugged into the 'LPS' cavities?  Do you have illuminated aftermarket gauges?  You may just have to start tracing the "gray" circuit until you find the short.

To become more familiar with the wiring, refer to the factory 1985 Wiring Manual.  It may take several minutes to download, so be patient.  Save the file to your hard drive for faster access in the future.  You can also reference the more generalized wiring manuals in our Technical Pages.
