What's that sound???
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:11:58 pm »
What do you all think this is? It is a 305 TBI with 120kish on it. Only does it for the first couple minutes then goes away.  I am planning on replacing the engine anyways, but was wanting to drive with this one for one season to save up after the body work was done.

Have you worked on it recently?  Like having the air leaner or carb off. Could be valve train. Could be some thing in the transmission dust cover. Lots of possibilities. Take a long screwdriver or something you can put against different parts of the engine and hold to your ear. Try to narrow down the search area.

You need to isolate the problem and narrow down where it is coming from.  Use a broom stick handle or wooden handle and press it on the motor, trans, bellhousing area if you can't isolate it

dang that sounds bad your bottom end is playing the snare drum. I'd up the octane, retard the timing, and use better oil for now to get it by. Make surer the weights under the rotor cap are moving freely. And no plug wires are touching metal

What's under the hood??? If you have to ask maybe we shouldn't race!
