Drivers Door alignment?
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:51:14 am »
I have an 1984 c10 reg cab.  The drivers side door is extremely hard to close.  I have to slam it shut with both hands to get it to latch.  I took it to a body shop and he said nothing could be done because the doors on these old trucks just don't close like the new ones.  Surely there is some way to get the door to close easier.  Also, the front edge of window frame sticks out away from body about a 1/4 inch.  It creates a lot of wind noise.  The previous owner said the truck was never wrecked. Any suggestions on fixing these problems?  Thanks.

I've heard replacing the hinge pins and bushings helps this.  that is if the hinges are still good.

First off, never go to that body shop for anything.
There is a lot of stuff that can adjust doors on these trucks.  As stated, the hinge pins are toublesome.  But it sounds like either your hinge pins are sloppy as sloppy can be or your door is mis-aligned.
There are adjustments on the hinge bolts themselves, there is adjustment for the striker on the back door post, and there is adjustmenmts for the locking mechanism that is in the door.
Your first order would be to align the door to the body, IE hinge pins or hinge adjustments.  Once that is done, then the striker and locking mechanism can be adjusted to each other.
This takes time and patience.  So do not think you will get it perfect the first time.

i would try to lift up on the door, move it around see if it moves any (besides the swing of the hinge) no sense on trying to adjust a worn hinge. there shouldnt be no play up and down
