looking at ANOTHER truck need opinions
« on: March 22, 2014, 11:51:53 pm »
its a 91 4x4 crew cab. the guy want 3200 but it has no bed (think it was a work truck) 454 4l80e with a 205 (what i m looking for, for my cummins. its a dually but i dont want those axles so they might be getting sold. has a plow but she looks a little gone. a dent behind the cab. wont be too bad once it covered up by a bed. insides dont look too bad. im prepared to do some body work and i have a couple "friends" who owe me some money one its his trade the others family owns a junkyard lol. but its kind of what i was looking for, crew cab 4x4 with a cummins. put a cab and chassis axle under her and one of the beds i have laying around. and i think i might have a dependable family truck that i can haul whatever i want. but i dont want to sink too much money into her. hes asking 3200 and i dont want to tick him off by low balling too low.

opinions? its also from Jew Jersey so its a little rusty in the normal areas that i can see. but he is 2 hrs away so i want a game plan

I think its a little high on the price because there is no bed.  800-1000 off in my book.  it looks like it was a flatbed because of the filler necks look like they attached to one.  looks like some rust and the dent another 500 off, but if the plow if operational that would be added to it, I have no idea what they are worth.  without it I would offer 2000 to 2500 depending on mileage.  interior looks good for being a work truck with full power windows and locks front seat doesn't look worn either.

edit: well that stinks.

I wouldn't be to heartbroken. The front end was probably shot. Right now is not the best time to sell a plow.  I know that truck prices vary by region but up here in salt covered frozen New York you can still get a crew cab with less rust for cheaper than that. Im sure you will find what your looking for soon enough. Im looking forward to the build thread when you do. Good luck

I've always wanted a crew cab dually so I would likely pay a little more.  That said I think I'd start between $2000 - $2500 depending.  I would have a hard time paying his asking price because of the no bed issue.  However, that is mitigated by the attached plow which appears in decent shape.  In Alaska, one generally pays ~$2000 - $2500 for a good USED one.  You'd have to estimate the market for your area if you didn't want to keep it.  A dually front and dually rear axle are getting harder to find these days (at least up here).  You could darn near part it out and sell the plow for his asking price.  Keep that in mind in your negotiations.

You say it has a 4L80E transmission?  I thought that transmission was not available in those trucks.  Maybe a 4L80E was swapped in.  Wonder if it's really a 700R4?  Or ?  Makes me question the condition of the trans since it's already a heavy truck that's been used for severe duty hauling, plowing, etc.

the 4l80e and np205 combo is VERY hard to come by stock. 91 is the year the 4l80 came out and they only put the two together in the 91 crew cabs. you can piece a 4l80 and 205 together for about 1500 (trans 500-800, tcase you need a 32 spine but you can make a 10 spline work for another 150 and 300 for the case and a adapter for i think 250-300) not to mention either a stand alone computer for the 4l80 or you can turn it into a manual automatic. 100-800.

i would of got the crew cab threw inspection with the 454 then pulled the motor and dropped in the cummins and put the 454 in my 84 with a sm465/205 combo and put that threw inspection and had 2 work trucks. told my buddy about the plain he said im getting "truck greedy" they are like pokemon, gotta catch em all.

its a burb, they only want 1800 for it. but the motor has a knock and the trans is only a 4l60 dont need it will kill it. so this leaves me with just in interior, it looks nice and is power. something i never really priced before but whats it worth?
