70's k10 vs k20 vs k30 short bed lengths?
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:25:15 am »
Is there any differance in the short bed lengths between the sizes of 70's modles of our trucks?

I have a chance to get some nice bed rails for my 78 K10 short bed for free.  Its a bit of as drive to go get them and I don't wan't to make the trip for nothing.  The rails are on either a k20 or k30 I'm not sure witch.  Also uncertian of the year exactly.  I know it has round headlights.

Long story short the truck is abandond and parts are free for the taking.  There isn't anyone I can get to measure them with out going there myself and that an all day trip.  Not much else on the truck would be easily salvageable so I would be mainly doing this just for the rails.

As far as I know GM never made a factory short bed in 3/4 or 1 ton trucks.

Interesting.  I'm sure this was a short bed truck.  I saw it had 8 lug axles.  Maybe they where upgraded at some point.  I just assumed it was a k20 or k30 because of this.  There is no badging on the truck saying one way or the other.

Maybe I'll have to make the trip and hope for the best.  I'll take some tools with me and see if their is anything else I could get for spaires.  The truck is sitting on private property and was left behind by a renter that was evicted.  The property owner has waited the proper amount of time and has legal ownership of the truck so he can junk it.  Since its going to be hauled off to the junk yard I have to keep it in rolling condition but everything else is fair game.  The only catch is I can't get my truck into where it is.  There is a lot of junk piled up in the area.  Everything will have to be packed out by hand  So I can't get the big ticket items and the body is shot anyway.  I didn't pop the hood when I saw it so I'll see whats under there too.  If nothing else maybe I can pull some parts for a little swapping and trading down the road.

Thanks for the reply.

gm didnt make them but it didnt mean another company didnt make it or a owner didnt make it. i plan on building a 3+3 short bed with a cab and chassis axle just because no one around will have one

No Compnay that I have ever heard of custom made a 3/4T or 1T truck in a short bed, they were made to work, so max capacity was the goal.  Switching axles on a 1/2T SWB is a simple task though.
There is no difference in 1973-1987 Short beds short of the tailgates and the filler style and location.
