Glove box hinge, new to forum

My glove box fell off some time ago.  I looked for the "hinge" and found nothing.  Investigation leads me to the assumption that the "hinge" is flexible plastic and mine snapped along its length so I don't see anything broken like a typical hinge.  I can fit it in place and close it, but there is no hinge!

I know how to search the online sources, but is there a goto parts source or do they all sell the same part?  AND these liners have the integral hinge??  I'd appreciate any info and advice.

The "hinge" is part of the plastic glovebox.  Although I've never tried it, you can separate the metal door from the plastic box if it's necessary, and then try to adapt a piano hinge trimmed to length.  You'll need to inspect the box for feasibility of the idea.

thank you bd.  Dang those plastic glove boxes are pricey.  I'm sort of a stickler for stock,
but appreciate the alternate idea all the same.

Although the plastic 'hinge' was surprisingly durable, I've seen a few tear over the years.  Good luck with whatever path you take.

The hinge in my truck is broken too. I was also wondering about the feasibility of using a piano hinge. I haven't tried. I knew about the aftermarket repops, especially since I bought one for my dad's 82 several years ago. It was a real pain to separate the metal door from the plastic liner, mainly with getting the lock off. I don't necessarily want to go that route since I don't want to lose my original RPO sicker! Plus, the repops are expensive!

Yeah...$60+ seems a bit much for a plastic piece.

I replaced my glove box recently.
Search around you'll find a reproduction for ~$40 shipped. Don't forget junk yards too.
My RPO sticker came right off and still has enough adhesive to stick onto the new one.
Separating the metal cover is just 4 screws and the lock cylinder. Easy.

I built my truck on a strict budget of basically nothing and I made a glove box hinge of some roofing valley metal. Basically a roll of very thin aluminum sheet metal and I took and cut a strip and folded it in half  to give it more  strength and screwed half where the hinge originally screwed to the dash frame and the other half  between the  actual Gove box and the door. It took several tries to get it right where it looked normal but it works great. I spray painted it with my dash and glove box so it would all match when I did the interior.

Great idea.  I usually buy them from a pick and pull.  Usually a 90-91 Suburban is what I look for.  Walk out paying about $5 for them

I cut my RPO sticker out of the old plastic box. I keep it as a card in the new box.
