Water pump going?
« on: February 05, 2014, 10:10:45 pm »
Underneath my truck tonight I noticed coolant dripping from the bottom of the hose coming from the water pump. This is on my 87 with 191,000 miles on it.Is the water pump starting to go?
Thanks

The rear seal on the pump could be going bad.  I just replaced my pump this past weekend on my 1991 Suburban.

there is a little weep hole on the underside of the water pump, like capt said if the seal goes on the back side or the seal on the inside the weep hole will leak. Could also be a pin hole in the hose or a loose connection at the pump and hose or even pump to block. Main thing is to verify where its leaking from before you start replacing parts

Yep, I replaced all of my hoses, clamps, and even the heater core trying to pin down a leak.  Then someone told me about the weep hole thing.  After a lot of wasted coolant I've got a shiny new water pump.  She's tight as a drum now!
