carb question
« on: June 11, 2014, 10:28:08 am »
Is it possible to mount a qjet on a squarebore vortec intake. If so any ideas??? I read that there are adapters but not sure do they perform well.I want to keep my qjet so I want have to buy a new carb. Plus I love the qjet and the perfomance. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.

From what I've seen the best way to go is to use an Edelbrock 2116 intake.  No adapters needed.

I looked in the Summit Racing catalog but found nothing like you want.  They have many different carb spacers and adapters including square-bore to spread-bore but not spread-bore to square-bore.  Don't know if you could merely flip it over and make it work.

Something interesting to me was that Summit carries wood-fiber laminate spacers.  I think it would be an interesting challenge to make your own adapter out of wood laminate.  Maybe others have knowledge or experience about this.

When you say summit racing catalog is it online or the one they sent to your house.and yes that would be a good challenging task to do.

I actually have the hardcopy catalog but I don't think it has all of Summit's inventory.  Here is the link to Summit's site:  www.summitracing.com/  Type in 'carb spacers' and 'carb adapters' in the search function.

However, I think I found what you want when I searched the Summit site:  2 adapters made by Edelbrock.  The Summit No. is Edl-2692 @ $32.97, and Edl-2693 made of aluminum @ $39.97.  Both are spread-bore carb to square-bore manifold adapters.

Summit's toll free number is 1-800-230-3030.

Hope this helps.  If you get one let us know how it works.
