C10 vs K10 Engine block mounts
« on: June 30, 2014, 01:36:14 pm »
Ok thought I would pass this on to anyone else in this group that may run into this problem. I bought a K10 SWB non roller for a rebuild awhile back well it had sat for a long time but during that time I was buying parts because I knew I would be rebuilding. I then bought another one that did have the drive train in it and if you go to my chicken truck build it is the orange and white truck. So no I have gotten far enough in my rebuild that I went to put the motor in the frame, the motor is a 350. Well the motor would not go down far enough on the mounts for me to put the long bolt thru the rubber mounts. I could get one side in but the other side was anywhere from a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off no matter what I did. I was almost at the point of welding in some permanent mounts till I got out my Chevy dealers parts book. After looking up the stamped number on my mounts it came back that I had C10 mounts I was trying to get the motor in, so I looked up the part number for K10 mounts and it was a different number. So you ask how did I get C10 mounts. Well when I was buying parts for this rebuild I had bought some motor mount brackets from  , their catalog shows that they are for chevy trucks 73-87 but what their catalog doesn't tell you is that they are for a C10 not a K10. So to verify that I called them and yep after the sales person looked further into it they said yup they are for a C10 not  K10. Lesson learned for me. It was also a lesson for alot of other people, everyone I had talked to said they didn't know there was a difference with the brackets. I’ve attached a pic also of the brackets. The one on the right is for the C10 and the one on the left is for a K10. You can see that the C10 is alot bigger than the K10. Also the brackets for a K10 are very hard to come by, I got mine from a machine shop in my area non of the junk yards in a 200 mile radius had any.
