My 86 K20 has the wiper switch integraded into the turn signal switch. *It only has high and low* Also my motor only works on low sometimes but I have to wiggle the motor on the firewall to get it to work, but normally only works on high. Here's my questions:

1. To upgrade to the Delay/pulse style, is it just a plug in swap just by buying the new pulse motor and delay style switch? Or is there more to it?

2. Can I pop something off the existing motor and fix a "cold solder joint" to get the motor functioning correctly? It seems to be an all metal motor rather than having a plastic access panel for the circuit board.

Wiper motor under the hood is the same.  Switch on the column and electronic module that plugs in between is the only difference.  I have never upgraded a switch and added intermittent wipers, I've only switched out whole columns that had it and it was plug and play.

The turn signal lever is different, as well.

BD: is it totally different as in, my only real option is swap out the column? Because they look the same besides having the delay setting rather than only HI & LO

Is there a way to repair my current motor? It seems simple just like a bad connection but I don't know how to bust it open. Looks to be assembled with steel rivets but I don't want to ruin it if I take it apart wrong.

I'd rather have the intermittent wipers obviously and figured if I had to buy new parts now was the time, but I likely won't do it, if it means a column swap.

The lever is different, because of an added tang that engages the delay rheostat on the switch.  The lever, switch and delay module should integrate with the existing column.  The style of lever you need also depends on whether or not you have factory cruise control; the style of switch depends on whether you have a tilt or non-tilt column.

On the w/w motor, there should be no reason to open the motor housing - there are no user serviceable parts inside the motor.  The only parts you can service are under the plastic covers.  I suggest you refer to the Section 8A of the 1986 Service Manual, beginning on page 1277, to diagnose the loss of speeds on the motor (and gain a better understanding of the wiper delay system).  For greater detail on the wiring, refer to the 1986 Wiring Manual.

My truck is a base model.....no tilt, no cruise. Just thought maybe wiper delay was plug and play.

My wiper motor only has one plastic cover, under it are the gears. I can only assume that the circuit board is under the metal canister looking thing at the bottom. I guess I'll just buy a new motor and stick with what I have. I can't keep jumping out in the rain to wiggle the motor when it quits......it's a wonder I haven't wrecked lol.
