Gas in Oil Pan
« on: September 29, 2014, 08:21:20 am »
Hey guys. I posted some pictures in the members ride section of my 85 swb c10 5.0 4spd.  Last week it died on me on a trip to the dump. I had it towed to a local mechanic. He gets back to me saying the carb is gone and is causing fuel to leak into the engine and get down into the oil pan/exhaust.  So he recommends a rebuild or new carb. I completely trust and respect the guy.  I was wondering what you guys thought? Is this a precursor to the start of on going engine issues? I only paid $1200 for the truck, and the carb work alone is looking like $400 on the low end of things.  Thanks guys and if you have any questions for me just ask.

Sounds more like the fuel pump leaking into the engine to me.

Do you have to meet any emission regulations in your area?
At $400 your in the neighborhood of a new Edelbrock manifold, carb, & air cleaner set up.

Update: Looking for a new/rebuilt carburetor.   1985 Chevy c10 5.0L 4spd VIN 1GCDC14HFS188### (wasn't sure if posting a full VIN was a bad idea).  I received a Haynes Manual with the truck and it lists M4ME,M4MC as possible carbs.  When I look at NAPA they have 4 different carbs. Then looking at National Carburetor they only have 2 Part# ND4478 and ND4484.  Just looking for a little insight. The National ones are cheaper and from a couple posts on this forum seem legitimate.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Also, if anyone has any questions on lobster fishing or fiberglass/composites those are my areas of knowledge.
