PCV valve?

I recently bought a 82 GMC,LWB, K20. It originally had the 6.2 L diesel it had been swapped to a 454 when I bought it. My question is does this motor have 2 PCV valves? There is 1 in each valve cover the passenger side one hooks up to a vacuum outlet on the carb. the other one was just shoved into the air filter with a very loose fit but if you put your finger on it with the engine running it has suction I'm just wondering where do I need to run this hose to?

The PCV valve is a one-way valve, so having two is self defeating.  Should just be a breather on the other side.

The idea is that, above a certain vacuum, the engine vacuum will lift the piston in the PCV valve, opening up some air flow from the crankcase into the carb.  This air comes from the other side valve cover through a breather.  This clears out oil fumes and exhaust gases that leaked past the rings from the crankcase and keeps them from venting directly to the atmosphere.

Well the one in the drivers side valve cover is not hooked to anything right now and if you put your finger on it it has suction.

The 'suction' is created by the PCV valve on the opposite valve cover.  If you have the original style air cleaner housing, there should be a tube that plugs into the valve cover grommet in place of the redundant PCV valve and a hose that connects the tube to a small filter in the air cleaner.  If you have an aftermarket air cleaner, the redundant PCV valve can be replaced by a filtered breather that plugs directly into the valve cover.  Either way the second PCV valve shouldn't be there.

Yeah, Rich, you're right.  I have that connection to the little filter in the air cleaner body.  I just forgot about it.  You can see the connection on the valve cover here; the other end of the tube plugs into the nozzle on that little filter where it sticks through the air cleaner body.  I used a 90* fitting in the tube because it was too tight to make the bend otherwise without collapsing the tube or having it arc way out and look ugly.

Rich what spark plug wires are you running and how do you like them? also can you post a picture of the hose going into the air filter?

In the picture above, those are NAPA blues.  I have since switched to Taylor spiral wound wires, and I like them a lot.  When I researched it on the net, there were a lot of questions about wires along the lines of "If you didn't want to pay for Taylors, what wires would you use."  They are about double the price of a normal set of wires, But that's only like $60, so I just went with them.  They are plenty long in case you have weird routing needs.  I tucked the extra length behind and below the distributor, so the wires come off the cap, disappear behind the distributor, then come back out all dressed and pretty.  Unlike the product picture, they are 90* connectors at the plugs.  Fit fine with the Hooker 2453 headers.
