Bad ignition switch
« on: November 09, 2014, 08:10:10 am »
So my 81 6.2 diesel ( originally a 350 conversion diesel) has been started off a momentary switch for years I'm im finally sick of it.  When I put my key in the ignition everything seems to work. The first two clicks turn on all the auxiliary dash stuff and my electric fuel pump but when it comes to actually starting it there's nothing. Any thoughts ??

Just a wild guess without knowing anything about your truck, but I'd expect the wire that used to connect the ignition switch to the starter relay got moved over to the momentary switch. Move it back and it will be OE configuration again. Typically, that kind of thing gets done because the ignition switch pooped out, so there might be more troubleshooting to do even after you move the wire back.

Or the ignition switch wire just got disconnected at the starter. And someone ran a new wire for the momentary switch
