Help!

So the other day the truck started making the horrendous noise. So I popped the hood and noticed that it's the air cleaner as shown in the video. Also it stops at the higher rpms

Does anyone know how to fix this and yes I have tried taking it off and also tightening it.https://vimeo.com/113550075

Sounds like the air door has broken off inside the snorkel.

Take the air cleaner off and verify the sound is gone when the engine runs.  Shake the air cleaner and note where the noise is coming from.  You will probably need to repair the air door hinge, or the air door itself.  You can also see if you can get a junk yard replacement.  Post pics of what you find and we will help out.

Ok thanks I will take a look at it tomorrow. Any recommendations on how to take it off to repair it?

Well, taking the air cleaner off is easy, right?  Shake it to see if that is what is rattling, then look in the snorkel and see if you can see what is loose.  Take pictures.  Report back.

Here's what I found- looks like the hole that the rod goes into on the plate has become to big. Is there any way to fix this? Or maybe a replacement plate?

Also when I unplug the vacumme source the sound stops which also brings me to the conclusion the the vacumme motor (what it is called in the Haynes book) is bad.

Does anyone know were I can get these to parts?

Not sure about parts..seems to me it would be easiest to find a new one or one at a wrecker.

You can blow into the vacuum motor and tell if it will hold pressure (and vacuum) or not.  You should be able to suck on it and move the piston.  If it leaks air, it's shot.

You can usually find old thermostatic air cleaners at a salvage yard.  People put on the open-element air cleaner setups instead (even though that will make cold weather performance suck), so normally they aren't picked over.
