re-installing the drivers outside door handle
« on: February 09, 2015, 10:34:53 am »
I am replaced the drivers door on my 77 k10 (aka The Rust Bucket). I spent most of yesterday and scraped off most of the skin from the back of my hand trying to put the door latching mechanism in and attaching the outside door handle.

How the heck do you get that sucker in and connect the operating rod to the latch? I have tried as many ways as I can think of and I can get it all lined up but I can't get enough force on the operating rod to push it into the little hole that it needs to go into way back in there.

I am sure there must be a trick to doing this and knowing the trick it might be a 10 minute job.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hmmm......

When I put the doors back together on my '77 I don't remember it being that difficult.

I think you hook up the linkage before putting the screws in the latch that bolts it to the door.

Thanks for asking Capt. Yes I did. I let it sit a couple of days and then it wasn't too much trouble. Not sure why it was such a pain the first time.
