I  recently stated working on this truck. Uv had it for awhile now but have not been able to do a lot. I work in the marine corps so don't really have a lot of time to spend on it. I  tore down the top end to the Pistons so I could clean and re seal everything. When putting it all back  together I noticed a timing issue it is about 25 degrees off witch I know is really bad but I had to leave it well because I was doing all this in the parking lot of my housing ( big nono here) when completion I had a very hard time setting my distributer as you can imagine once I got it the truck would rev
Really really high and would toss both belts had heck getting the carirater set back to where it needed to be. Know to the reason I am posting I will be moving soon to a better house with a garage so I can remove the engine and do a complete rebuild hopefully not just the engine. So all I'm asking is for advice and knowledge of your past experiences. What tips you have on it and what trick you used to make it run well and were you buy all your parts I need a lot of new parts and can't really afford a lot of them on my sallery any discount is a good discount. Thank you all look forward to heiring from you all

welcome from maryland.
the knock could be a exhaust leak from the exhaust manifold not being tight enough.
if i didnt get the discount that i get from napa i would go to autozone.

Welcome from NW Indiana.  I had a terrible knock that ended up being a loose rocker arm.
