Chrome Windshield Gasket/Seal?
« on: August 04, 2015, 04:32:38 pm »

Hi.

My windshield has always had a leaking problem. When I got the truck painted in 2012 the window and seal was replaced to. It is still leaking badly and the chrome on the seals is already starting to brown (Is that supposed to happen after so short a period???).

I'm going to have a local glass person reinstall the windshield with some new seals...

What brand do you recommend? (Steel Rubber, Precision, other?)
Any tips before I get into this? (I want to be there during the operation, see what it looks like under too)
Should I get chrome or not? (I want chrome, but if it is going to brown immediately what's the point)

Also, my rear window is factory and gives me no problems at all. The chrome on it is very dark brown though. Assuming I go with chrome, is there a way to have it replaced without molesting the seal at all?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
IdahoMan

Factory chrome is made way better than any of the cheap stuff these days. I saw a truck I think a 2012 Chevy that had the fake chrome on it already peeling.

Regarding the seals if something is leaking ensure the flange for the seal is not rusty and in good shape.

The chrome strips we sell go pink after a while lol.  Had mine in for over 5 years now, parked in the sun and still looks good.  My cost on the part is $10 and I figured 10 bucks everytime I change the windshield isn't too bad.  Comes with a new metal clip in the bag too, for covering up the join.  But the black will last 10 times as long.  As for the leak will have to see what the pinchweld looks like.

I believe the brand we get in is called Precision.
