need help finding torque specs
« on: September 05, 2015, 10:52:06 pm »
Hey fellas I'm currently working on a 74 gmc and I took it completely apart for restoration. I'm ready to start putting it back together and I needed the specs on the 6 bolts that hold the front cross member on the top rail and the 4 side bolts which r smaller. I'm replacing the hardware with grade 8 bolts as well. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but thanks for any help thrown my way. Any info or pics that might need to b added for my reply just let me know and I'll get it for you thanks.

Well actually after doing some more research I found out that there is a torque spec. It's 90 lbs for the top and 65 lbs for the side bolts, and I'm also going to be putting some red thread lock on it also since I shouldn't have to ever pull it back it off. I definitely don't want those bolts to vibrate loose.

confirming what you have already found but that is the specs I used when selling and installing the chopped crossmembers.  Use lock washers.
