Quadrajet Throttle Bracket
« on: August 30, 2015, 03:55:11 pm »
So the past few days I've been chasing down some issues I've been having with the 350 in my '73 K10. It runs pretty decent, but has a hard time starting in the morning and smells very rich while running. Fuel mileage is also pretty low, probably hovers around 6 mpgs even with me babying the thing. The fumes are enough to make my eyes water on occasion. I know it's an old truck without a cat, but this seems worse than it should be.

I figure it's probably in need of new plugs, wires, distributor cap etc. I'm planning to replace those, but I figured that I'd take a look at the carb too, thinking that could be the culprit of my cold start issues. After taking off the air cleaner I noticed a cable wasn't connected. It looks like it should run to the throttle bracket but I don't know what it's for or what it does so I was hoping ya'll could help me figure it out.

Thanks!

That is the detent/kickdown cable for your transmission. It has to go on the bolt that you see on the bottom of the linkage arm. Use a lock nut to hold it all together.

You will have to do some adjustments once its all connected.

Ok, I had a feeling that might be what it was. Thanks for helping me out on that. So that could be part of my problem as far as lugging real bad up hills? Because currently the throttle position won't hold the trans  in 2nd gear I'm assuming? Thanks again!

Yes. That cable allows the transmission to kick down and without it hooked up you have to do that manually.

Can you show the throttle bracket?   The springs should actually be on the bottom hole and hooked to the bracket.
