Issue At Wheel(s)
« on: August 04, 2015, 06:43:12 pm »
I have an 85 K10 with a 305 auto.

I started hearing a clanging sound coming from the right side of the vehicle a while back.  Im not sure at all, but if i had to guess, i would say it seems like the front.  It almost sounds like a chain rattiling.  I notice it most, if not in its entirety while at slower speeds.  This is probably just because I can't hear it while cruising.

Also, while parallel parking, there is something going on with one of the wheels, I notice this while cutting the wheel and trying to backup,  there is a loud chirping/squealing and I feel what I would call wheel hop and makes it more difficult then it needs to be.

I hardly use 4wheel, but I put it in the other day to see hiw it is and the wheel hop and steering seem awful, but the 4wheel still seems to be functioning, and after I did this, it seems like the issues previously mentioned, got worse/louder.  Not sure.

Front axle u-joints bind and cause all kinds of noise when bad

I am going to look into the u-joint and probably replace it, and as far as the wheel "chirping", I think this is a seperate issue. I noticed not even just while parking, but in park, when i cut the wheel sharply to one side, and maybe both, there is a loud squealing/chirping sound coming from the front driver's wheel and continues while in that position until i would turn it back slightly.  (There is contact point, to where everything is fine and the loud squealing/chirping begins.)

Does this sound like the wheel bearing?  I thought that would be something I noticed while driving.  I jacked the problem side up and the wheel MIGHT have moved a hair.  I have 4-wheel with auto lockers.

The squealing while turning isn't the belt is it?
The snapping noise is most probably an axle joint. By the sounds of it you have let it go a while. Good chance the axles are wrecked now too.
