Changed engine now I need a bit of help odds and ends
« on: October 20, 2015, 09:51:54 pm »
Hello
Thanks in advance for any help
   I put a 94 engine into a 87 r-10
Some of the wiring does not match up .
  First thing is the TPS
    Wiring has a :
Flat 3 wire plug with a Gray. Green. and brown wire going into the plug
     TPS part no. 80724

The engine has a TPS part no 06681
     It has a circular plug
The wires in the  harness that motor came out of has 3 wires , a yellow(or white nor sure) a blue and a brown
can someone tel me which wires to splice to witch wires ?
Also I have been looking for  some close up pictures of engine bays . Where can I find some ?

I would swap parts before cutting and guessing. What ecm are you using ? Im not sure if the sensors will communicate right with the 87 ecm

I am learning as I go . I do have the ECM from the van that the new engine came out of . I changed the sensors from the old motor to the new motor .
I suppose I will swap in the original TB ....

I have a 1987 r-10 , I removed the 305 , I took a 350 out of a 1994 Chevy van
I have changed all the sensors from the 305 to the 350 . The snag is the TPS ,
  And a few other things

Are you using the wiring from the truck?
Are you trying to use the sensors from the 94 along with the TB?  If so I would use everything from the 87 and just plug it in.  My 87 had a 94 305 in it.  Just removed the intake and used what came factory.

Thank you for the reply . I changed all the sensors on the new motor , so it is a plug and play . I changed back to the original TB .
The latest road block is this : I cannot figure out which y pipe to get . The one that was in the truck had the o 2 sensor close to the manifold .
what is the part number for a 350 y pipe ? It is a 4x4 . I can plug a lower 02 sensor hole and put one up top if I had to .
I have looked and looked on the Internet , but cannot figure or see what to buy . I don't think I am asking the right questions to the right people .
On a side not , where are the vin numbers on the frame ? (So I can order parts easier )

I don't know of anyone makes a factory replacement Y-pipe.  The 87 should have the 02 in the exhaust manifold.
The likely hood of finding the VIN on the frame is about as likely as finding a factory replacement Y-pipe.  Don't you have the VIN in the windshield?

Even with my 91 crew the axles I can use any k30 truck from 77+91 the trans is a 4l80e but its no longer automatically shifted the engine is from industrial machinery the adapter plate from eng to trans is from a 91 Chevy p30 van. So when I look for parts I have to base it off what parts I'm working on. You don't really need the vin with engine work you have to look at the engine numbers with the axles you just need to know about what year they came

P series , cool ! I had a 1984 p 10 , turbo 400 , 350-m. I wish I still had big ole ugly thing !
The problem I have is , online parts are generally less expensive but you can't  "make sure" it is exactly what you need .
The engine I put in is the same as the one that I took out so , any y pipe for 4x4 in those years will work .
  Thanks for the reply
