I am sorry for your loss, it is hard to lose a special animal.  I cried like a baby when I had to put Ranger down a few years ago.

I have had say good by to four dogs in my life. Two while I was growing up. The last two I had when I moved out on my own, or got as an adult. They were like my children.
Vader we took in as a stray when I was 14, 1984 he was about a year old. He was a black lab / husky, right eye light blue, left eye half blue, & brown. I had to say good by to him in 99.
Junior ( Vader Jr. ) I brought  home as a 9 week old puppy in spring of 1996. He tested my mental strength for several years, but he finally became the great dog I knew he could be. He was also a black lab / husky same eyes as Vader. I had to say good by to him in the fall of 2009.
I have been without a dog since. I was never a cat person but I took in a kitten that showed up on my door step in 05. First night he went, and curled up with Junior on his bed. They were best buds from then on. I still have him, all 24 lbs. of him!

Junoir, & me when I was 17ish. Also about 60 lbs. lighter!

Junior puppy.

Vader, & Junoir when he was about 3 or 4 months old.

Junior enjoying the good summer air smells, cruising in the 55.

Junior about 2007.

Best buds.

This is Boots, he came home as a baby to live with my ex, her daughter, Junior, and I in about 2001. He grew into quite the little muscle bound Chihuahua from playing with a 60 lb. adult dog growing up.

They are family, & then some, its a cruel trick played on us that they don't share our lifespan.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
