Newbie help needed
« on: April 06, 2005, 05:27:00 pm »
Like my username says, I have a 1979 Chevy c10 custom deluxe. My question is what do I need for it to pass basic inspection. I'm in Pennsylvania so I don't believe emissions will be an issue.

The two biggest problems are rusted out floor panels and rocker panels, they look pretty bad. The exhaust is rusted off past the cat. I'm not looking for any kind of long term restoration, just need it road worthy. Thanks for any help!

Well if road worthy is all your looking for..i would start with a good tune up.new plugs, wires. rotor button check your distibutor cap for cracks ..change your oil ..change your trans filter and fluid..check your timing go through and make sure all your bolts and nuts are tite and torque them if need be. check your wheel bearings ..and tire preasure..and by all meens get some muffler tape or flexible muffler pipe and get that on out to a tail pipe, if its rusted out like you say you dont need to suck up all those fumes in the cab.and check your front end out take a little time to inspect your tierods idler arm and drag link and your controll arm bolts and pins balance your wheels and tires, rotate them too..good luck.

So is the cab rust part of the inspection? Because mecanically the truck seems fine, it was apparently maintained regularly. The cab rust seems to be the biggest issue.

As long as your feet aren't dragging on the ground, and body parts are not flying off i think you will be ok, they mainly look at emissions and functions of parts on the truck. all your turn signals must work as well as head lightes tail lightes and so on. if its on your truck it needs to work..so exhaust would be an issue for you, definatley..get that taken care of.if your cat converter is bad it needs to be replaced.for inspection....Good Luck hope this helps
