C6W: GVWR rating
D1Z: Most likely the speedometer driven gear type
E5Z: Speedometer adapter (delete)
E9Z: Speedometer key (delete)
JAN: Plant code, Janesville Wisconsin
JB8: Should be your brake type and weight range
MX1: Merchandising package for transmission
UN9: Radio, suppression equipment
UP8: Stereo radio installation provisions, instrumentation
YD3: Front axle, base equipment for scheduling, GVW plate

12L: Secondary exterior body color; Frost White
72U: Primary exterior color
73A: Should be accent stripe color
77I: Should be interior trim color
77W: Interior trim combination

Hope this helps. It's not complete, but these are all either the same codes my truck has or similar to what's on mine. I got my codes from several different sources online. Keep searching and hopefully you can turn something up. You can also take your VIN number to your local GM dealer and have them decode it for you. GM used similar codes for items for a very long time. Good luck.

YK6 is a Special Equipment Option... (COPO)

Try your VIN at Compnine.com they may have it in their database.

Thanks for the input guys, Compnine.com did not have my VIN on file. What would be considered special equipment? what special equipment options were available on our trucks?

Not really sure. Maybe things like the camper special, certain uncommon and/or regional trim or suspension packages, etc. You know other company's like Dodge and Jeep had special suspension and trim packages. Dodge had the Little Red Wagon, Jeep had many regional and national favorites. Renegade, Sahara, etc. Not entirely unique since they were production vehicles but sometimes the numbers sold were so small ... Back in those days a vehicle could be built to order also.
