Superior shift kit instructions
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:37:30 pm »
Does anyone happen to have a copy of these instructions?  I have the 700R4 shift improver kit by Superior/Fairbanks and I lost the instructions.

  Thanks!

Hey Steve, how have you been?

Have you requested replacement instructions from Superior Transmission (scroll to the bottom of the webpage)?  I may have used that kit at some point.  If so, I retained the instructions and will look for them.  I will post the results of my search later, if no one else beats me to it....

Hey Rich,

Doing pretty good.....A 700R4 is giving me problems.....so I'm blaming the valve body right now. I did send an email to Superior/Fairbanks and request a copy, hopefully the will respond.

Appreciate the help.

I don't have the instructions you're after.  I used the Superior "700R4 HP" kit and still have the instructions, annotated with my install notes and deviations.  I think Superior will come through for you.  They are nice people, (800) 451-3115.

Superior sent me the instructions through a PDF.

Another question......I rebuilt this 700R4 and when I installed it, I had no reverse engagement.  Yes, the low reverse clutch is in correct, new sunshell, and the sun gear is perfect. Everything went together correctly and I have within spec endplay.

One thing I did change when installing the shift kit was a new Transgo 700-P separator plate. I do have the correct late (87-92) gaskets and prepared the plate as instructed.

The history of the transmission was a 1-2 flare but everything else seemed to work ok.

I have been Googling my ass off trying to find some answers, but to no avail.

Im no pointing the finger at the Transgo plate.....its the one variable I changed.

You rebuilt it, installed a shift kit and new separator plate, and now all gears engage except reverse?

A few possibilities that come to mind are: cut/damaged stator shaft Teflon seals, reverse boost valve stuck/scored/misassembled, reverse input clutch seals cut/damaged/installed upside down, reverse input clutch housing or piston cracked, reverse input clutch snap ring dislodged, reverse input clutch belleville spring plate installed upside down, spacer plate and/or gaskets incorrect or improperly installed.

Hey Rich, I agree to all those possibilities ......I air checked everything, inspected all the pistons and seals, correct assembly of all the parts...at least 4 times. New boost valve installed correctly ( I have good pressure on my gauge). All snap rings installed correctly, spacer plate and gaskets (C) and (VB) installed correctly for the auxiliary valve body.

I inspected the teflon seals after I tore it down again and again, no damage.

I found an original separator plate (Delco) on eBay, so I will try that.

I know better than to ask this, but...  Did all of the clutches apply w/o leaks and then release when you air checked?  Did you ensure that none of the spool valves are sticky and that all VB check balls, capsules and springs were accounted for and installed in their proper places?

Absolutely.......Yes to all of those questions.    I have even had another set of eyes on the build (experienced builder) and all is good.

Im going to study the VB gaskets and separator plate again.
