Installing Fuel Tank

So I'm new to working on vehicles. Proficent enough to do light maintainence but I bought a truck that needed a fuel tank installed. Well I cant get the sending lines to attach. It almost seems like the lines are pointing to the ground and making it even more difficult to fully press on the hoses. I've tried loosening a couple of bolts so I can reach in and try and work the hoses on. I must have tried for two hours. I'm about ready to replace the hard lines with soft ones. Before I do I would like seek out some advice.

I took the bed off to replace my lines. Took some creative engineering to do it alone, though you could probably just undo the bed bolts and slide it back 6-8 inches to get access.

on my 94 i slid the bed back. on my 91 crew i kept one bolt in the hanger to allow the tank to tilt down. leave one bolt in the front hanger to allow the rear to drop. but dont allow it to drop all the way then put fuel lines on cause they will be too long and will kink. ask me how i know

I also put a wide flat board under the tank and used a low rolling hydraulic  jack to hold up the tank.  That let me adjust it up and down a little at a time after I loosened the brackets and worked around to get the gas lines connected. 

Its not a fun task if you do not remove the bed or slide it back, but it can be done.
