Bed Liner

I'm looking to spray my bed with a bed liner. I plan on doing it myself. What would be a good product to use with a spray gun?

 A regular spray gun will not work. The material is too thick. You'll need a schutz gun and enough air capacity to push it

ive sprayed the "smart" brand bed liner a few times and i love it a kit is around $100 i believe and they also sell the gun. I personally use two kits per bed to get a nice thick liner.

Here are some pics from when i did the floor and fire wall in my truck. A friend of mine sparyed some in a truck 2 weeks ago ill see if i can get some bed pics from him and ill post those as well.





thats been about 3 years ago heres a pic from when i pressure washed the cab out last week. only issue ive had is i scraped some off the drivers side floor board when i threw a gear box in there one day... lol... so i really cant complain.



I believe the instructions say you can scuff the area you are going to spray buy i always use an aggressive wire wheel or 80-40 grit on a roll lock disk to make sure it'll be there.

Ok, I'm curious. Winky, how much was the gun? $100 a kit, 2 kits = $200, so with the price of the gun, we are looking at???

You said you use 2 for a nice thick coat. How thick of a coat are we talking here? Like spray can thick or equal to/less than a Line-X job?

I'm impressed by your pictures of the red square body bed and the later model 2000's Silverado bed. The Ferd bed looked nice too (for a ferd).

i believe the gun was an extra $45-40. 2 kits on a short bed will get you near line x thick. this stuff doesn't have any Kevlar or any other fancy fiber additives so naturally it wont build as easily as some others. I would recommend it for every day use, but of course if your going to put and engine block in the back you might want to set it on card board etc... If your going to be sling stuff into your bed all the time ( gear boxes, heads, axles, other heavy objects with crisp edges) then i would go do a more durable liner like linex.

That actually sounds pretty good for what I need. Maybe 3 kits on a long bed for a Line-X type thickness. Plus I have a thicker rubber bed mat to go back over the top.

oh yea, you should be fine. i think you'll like it. the gun has an adjustable nozzle that controls the spray pattern to give you a finer or lumpy texture. just play with it on your first coat to get the desired effect

3M sells a gravity feed gun that has a feed line from the gun to the top of the cup. Makes it into a mini pressure pot sprayer. The cup takes a liner, with a lid. No need to clean the cup. just throw the liner, and lid out when your done. They also have a removable tip. When your done you throw the tip out.
I use SEM spray in liner, have done rocker panels, door jambs, under sides of beds, insides of beds, and cabs. Bumpers, trailer decks, shower floor. Stuff holds up great.
